Educational ActivitiesThe Lake Geneva Powwow is in part a cultural exchange. Many diverse cultures are represented by the participants. This diversity provides opportunities for an interactive learning experience. A common response from our guests is that they were unaware of how many unique cultures exist within the American Indian community. Lake Geneva's history is intertwined with that of the Potowatami people, so much of what this powwow offers relates to their story, but other tribes are represented as well. Various educational and cultural activities will be featured throughout the weekend as a host of presenters share their knowledge with us. They will be located in a special area dedicated to this purpose during the powwow. We invite you to come and interact with these gifted people. Sal "Red Hawk" Camacho's presentation is one of the most fascinating. While Red Hawk is on the powwow grounds, he lives as an 18th Century Potowatami man. With his authentic wigwam, period clothing, tools, and weapons, he portrays what life was like for the Potowatami people. He describes how they hunted, what foods they ate, how it was prepared, how they dealt with the elements, and how they interacted with other tribes and the new people coming to the area. He also engages the guests by comparing our modern society to this vibrant and adaptive historical culture.
